By Mark

SEGA and The Creative Assembly have released a new trailer for Total War: Shogun 2 showing off two samurai square off and a siege of a fortress begin.

While this is an all CG produced video it still does the job in garnering excitement for the game and worth the watch purely for the fight alone. The title releases March 15th.

By Mark

Crytek and EA have put out a new video that focuses on the multiplayer side of Crysis 2. The feature of the video is the progression system in the game and how one can rise to the highest rank.

They claim it takes 60 hours to reach the highest rank and the rest of what they show is pretty standard fair, the title is still looking good though and the multiplayer still promising.

True Crime Developer 'Sorry' Over Cancellation

By Mark

True Crime: Hong Kong developer United Front Games have released a statement following the unfortunate cancellation of the title by Activision yesterday.
"We are sorry we did not get a chance to complete this project with Activision, but we understand why. We are both committed to doing quality games and nothing less.
"Maybe we will have a chance to work together in the future, but in the meantime we are setting our creative sights on a different horizon."
In addition to the True Crime title they were developing the studio have also made ModNation Racers which launched on the PS3. Not sure what to make of this really, can't help but feel it's a waste considering the game was due for launch soon so all that work has been done for nothing.

Bulletstorm Heavily Censored In Germany

By Mark

The German rating body is at it again with their incredibly strict rating rules in accordance with their youth protection regulations. The immensely over the top shooter from People Can Fly has managed to secure and 18+ rating but with hefty cuts.

The German edition of the title will not feature ragdoll effects, dismemberment, blood or splatter according to GamesIndustry.biz. While EA will also be distributing the Austrian version of the game which received a PEGI 18 rating in Germany it's not a certainty that it will be cleared for sale and may still be banned by the time the game rolls out.

Some of you may recall the same thing happening when Call of Duty: Black Ops launched last year, the title was censored for Germany and all imports were banned. What do you folks think about this?

More Dark Souls Details Emerge

By Mark

While we've already had a flood of details and word that the game will be harder than Demon's Souls we now have even more information pertaining Dark Souls.

This all comes courtesy of an interview by 4Gamer and one important detail to note right away is that there will be no demo for the title. Hidetaka Miyazaki, From Software dev and director of the title, said 'the appeal of Dark Souls can't be conveyed in a short play experience'.

DLC is also being planned but as of yet nothing has been laid down and set in stone however the main game will comprise of 60 hours of gameplay for players to scream their way through. Miyazaki then went on to explain some concepts of the title that involve online play which Andriasang have kindly translated.

"First is 'shared play experience.' Miyazaki wants players to feel that they have friends who are challenging this difficult game along with them. Players will have gradual effects on one another."
"The goal of this system is to recreate the feeling of playing the old Dragon Quest games, where even though everyone is playing individually, they exchange information and feel happy that someone else is struggling with them."
"The other concept is referred to at From Software as 'mutual role playing.' This involves instances of cooperative and competitive play as an extension of the individual's role playing experience."
Some other information that was talked about revealed that there will be around 100 enemy types in Dark Souls whereas Demon's Souls only had 30. In relation to the expansive world being designed for the title it was said that players will not only experience the Dark Fantasy environment but also High Fantasy and even a hell scenario and other various places.

I have to say it's all sounding really good, let's just hope those of us that do play it don't get punished by the game itself too much.

The Darkness II Announced

By Mark

2KGames have just announced that The Darkness II is indeed on the way to the PS3, 360 and PC this coming autumn.

In terms of the plot here's the synopsis for the new title:
It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power, and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.
Aside from the plot details there are also new gameplay information such as the fact that the game will further improve the 'quad-wield' aspect and the new differences of fighting in the dark versus the light. 2K have said of the game:
'layered with the use of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and engulfed in stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique that stays true to its comic book origins'
The Darkness was a hit with many people when it released just behind Bioshock in 2007 yet was overlooked by many, it's hard not to be excited about delving back into the grim world of the title and seeing how the events unfold.

Dead Space 2: Severed In Action

By Mark

If you happened to be following the media before Dead Space 2 launched then you may have come across a video series entitled 'Questions With Steve'. You see Steve happens to be Steve Papoutsis the executive producer of the game so as you can imagine he knows all there is to know about the title and therefore any planned DLC.

This includes Dead Space 2: Severed which are two standalone chapters that serve as an extension to the narrative of the original title. Players won't be taking the role of Isaac Clark this time though, instead we'll be controlling Gabe Weller accompanied by Lexine Murdock, the pair were the lead characters of the Wii and PSN title Dead Space: Extraction.

In these additional chapters the story runs parallel to Isaac's plight and will see Weller and Murdock fending of the Necromorphs and attempting to reach safety, simple right?
